Author @msspencerauthor visits the blog today with Whirlwind Romance #Contemporary #Romance

Thank you so much for having me today, Nicole. I’d like to talk about my new release from The Wild Rose Press, Whirlwind Romance.

I didn't mean to write this story. I meant to write a nice romantic interlude set on Longboat Key, a lovely barrier island on the Gulf Coast of Florida. Even before I'd reached Chapter Two, however, things had taken a geographical turn and veered off into the western Caribbean. Even now I'm not sure how it happened, but everything started to go awry when Lacey Delahaye, my heroine, finds a bedraggled castaway in her mangrove swamp. Fine. Not a problem. He's handsome, injured, and clearly has a secret. Could he be a lost tourist? A real estate agent caught up in a Florida land scam? An environmentalist who's discovered that whales have become man-eaters? No, sir. With his exotic, dark looks (flashing black eyes, shimmering ebony hair, etc.), he hardly seemed the real estate agent type. And he has an accent. Therefore he comes from elsewhere. He eventually confesses to Lacey that…well, I certainly won't divulge his secret. I will say that he and Lacey find themselves in a remote, tiny, tropical paradise, which would be very romantic, except for the vicious serpent lurking there.

In the aftermath of a hurricane, Lacey Delahaye finds herself marooned on an island on the Gulf coast of Florida with a mysterious man. They are immediately drawn to each other, but before Armand can confess his identity, they are kidnapped and taken to a tiny island in the western Caribbean. With the help of her son Crispin and a cadre of loyal followers, she and Armand must face down pirates, power-mad ideologues, and palace intrigue, if they are to restore the once idyllic tropical island to its former glory.

Excerpt (R): Bath Fun
She turned on the taps and poured a few drops of rose water from a small flagon into the tub. Slipping off her shorts and shirt, she sank blissfully into the water. Armand came to the door. “You look happy.”
“At this point it’s the little things.”
“Yes. I have a feeling tomorrow will not bring good news. I wish you weren’t here, Lacey.”
“Well, thanks a lot.” She batted her eyelashes at him.
“You know what I mean. This is a very precarious situation.” He sat on the edge of the bath. “I never should have let you help me.”
“You didn’t have much choice, Armand. Besides, I couldn’t leave you in the mangrove swamp. It’s not done in my family.”
He shook his head. “And then I seduced you in the first five minutes of our acquaintance. I am a wicked man.”
Lacey thought back to that night—to the smells of sulphur, mud, and sex. She’d felt guilty then, believing it was her fault, that she’d thrown herself at him. Not the other way around. She looked up into Armand’s face. Black stubble covered his chin. His unruly hair, a little long now, matched his glistening black eyes. Might as well let him wallow in his ignorance. She reached an arm around his neck and drew him toward her. Just as their lips touched, his eyes went wide, and he fell on top of her.
Bathwater spilled out, leaving Lacey half exposed and shivering. “Ack! What are you doing?”
He struggled out of the tub, his clothes dripping. “It’s your fault. You pulled at me, and I slipped.”
“Well, I never. You leaned in and lost your balance.” She turned the tap on again. As the bath refilled, an idea crossed her mind. Her eyes danced. “Now you’re wet, you might as well get in. You could use a wash.”
He cast her a look from under the thick eyebrows. “Might as well.”
She moved over and he squeezed in beside her, then rolled her over on top of him. She felt gloriously sensual and rubbed her body over his, massaging the hard parts. He found the soap and lathering up his hand, inserted two fingers inside her. The scent of rosewater filled the room. She slowly rotated her hips while his fingers kept up their pressure, then pulled away, allowing them to slip out. Locking her eyes on his, Lacey lowered herself onto his cock. The soap lubricated her opening, and he slid in to the hilt. She began to rock, slowly, then faster, as he kept his hands on the tub’s sides to steady himself. She concentrated on the thick penis scraping the sides of her vagina, nicking the tip of her clitoris, nudging her orgasm into flower.
“Oh God, Lacey, don’t stop.” He closed his eyes, and she redoubled her efforts until she came to the tipping point. Shuddering, she collapsed on top of him. They lay in each other’s arms, water sloshing and bubbling around them.
Someone knocked on the outer door.

Alison Mello is a wife and stay at home mom to a wonderful little boy. She lives with her amazing family in Massachusetts.
She loves playing soccer, basketball and football with her son. After having her son, Alison started reading again and fell in love with Contemporary Romance.
Reading made her happy and gave her something to do when she had downtime.
As she started to read more, she started to noticed things she really enjoyed in a book and things she didn’t. She began to have ideas for writing one of her own. One day she literally woke up and started writing. She realized that if there was ever a time for her to write, it was now. She had a part time job to give her something to do.
The hours at work were slow and she was bored with what she was doing, so while her son was off enjoying his friends over summer vacation she got started.
Alison finished the first book in two weeks and decided that she really enjoyed writing, so she kept going. She already had ideas in mind for books two and three, so she kept writing.
That is how the Learning to Love Series was born. Somewhere along the line, one of my Beta readers convinced me that Michael, a character from Finding Love, needed his own story.
That is when Alison added the fourth and final book. Alison hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.

Story Excerpt:
Her eyes opening shocked him. Lucian stood rapidly and darted to the doorway, hoping his speed had stopped her from seeing him. He sped into the living area and headed to the front door. Amy’s voice ground him to a halt before he reached it.
“What the hell are you doing inside my apartment?” she asked angrily.
Lucian turned. How had she gotten to the entrance hall so quickly? His speed was unmatched, and there was no way she could have gotten out of bed and walked there as quickly as he’d moved. Lucian saw the anger in her expression. He winced.
“I’m sorry. I….”
“Don’t. Just don’t. First you try and kill me. Then you all but drag me from the club. What am I? Some kind of obsession for you? What next? Strangle me while I sleep. Get out!”
“Amy. Please. I don’t want to hurt you. I came here to help protect you,” Lucian said, hoping more than anything their confrontation hadn’t woken her friend.
“You broke into my apartment. For all I know, you could be some kind of serial killer. Get out before I call the police,” Amy demanded.
“Amy. Please don’t be afraid… I,” Lucian said, taking a step closer to her.
Amy step backward. Her gazed bored straight into him, and if it were laced with poison, he’d be dead where he stood.
“Afraid. I’m not afraid. I’m damn well livid. How do you know my name? Why are you following me?” Amy asked.
Lucian glanced down at her hands. They were clasped tight enough for her knuckles to glare white. It was another visual sign of her anger toward him. “My name is Lucian Dark. I didn’t mean to break in, but you need to come with me. The males who were at the club want to take you. I want to help keep you safe,” he explained quickly.
He watched Amy’s reaction closely. Her defiant stance was unmoving, and she was good at guarding her emotions.
“I don’t care who you are. You broke into my apartment, so ‘didn’t mean to’ isn’t quite the truth, is it? I want you to leave me alone. I’m not going anywhere with you, and I don’t need anyone to keep me safe. I asked you to leave,” Amy said, more calmly.
“You don’t understand…,” Lucian began.
“No. You don’t understand. I don’t need anyone’s help. You appeared to deal with those males effectively. Go do whatever it is you do and leave me the hell alone,” she said.
Lucian watched the female take a step backward. He frowned. “You know who I am, don’t you?”
“I know what you are. For all I know you could be working with them. You best leave,” Amy said.
“I’m not going anywhere. I have nothing to do with those males. Do you know who they are?” Lucian asked, taking a step forward.
“No.”
Lucian sensed Amy knew exactly who the males at the club were. She had no intention of revealing anything. She was still obviously angry, but at least her tone had calmed. Maybe she would allow him to speak to her. Maybe, just maybe, he had a chance at convincing her to go with them.

Adult Excerpt 18+ only
Before he could answer, Lucian’s control broke. He reached forward and pressed his body against her. Her skin felt smooth and delicious against his, and his lust for her soared through him. Her full, rounded breasts contained in her swimsuit pressed against his chest muscles, and it caused a frenzy of desire to run through his veins. He took her head in one of his hands and pressed his lips against hers. If it wasn’t for the water cooling his skin, he would have caught fire at the sensation of her mouth opening up to him. She didn’t falter, but took him willingly. Her sweet taste was delicious as he explored her mouth with his tongue, and her reaction to him was just as passionate. He took every desire of his mate straight to his heart.
Her arms around his body pulled him closer. He felt her legs wrap around his waist, and his dick throbbed to be inside her. He knew she’d be able to feel his hard shaft against her clit, and he circled his hips, losing himself in the growing desire to shed her of the suit that was stopping him from feeling more of her body. She was responding to his need as desperately as he was, and he deepened the kiss, groaning deeply in his chest. She was possessing every emotion inside him. With her, he could feel again, and it was both scary and exhilarating. He couldn’t stop even if the whole place caught fire. She felt right in his arms, and he knew he’d never be able to let her go. He just hoped she felt the same way.

Q&A:
Q. Please tell us about your latest book.

A. This book delves into the life of Lucian, one of the lords of the Mist. He meets Amy Jackson and becomes obsessed with who she really is. She’d hiding something, and doesn’t want to put others at risk but he knows he has to do everything he can to protect her. Will he reject her when he finds out the truth?
This book was so much fun to write. Amy’s character is defiant and strong willed, and it was so enjoyable writing the scenes of her and Lucian’s confrontations. They are battling between desire for each other, and at the same time keeping themselves from getting involved. I found balancing their love for each other, and their desire to deny their future, a challenge.

Q. How do we find out about you and your books?

A. All my books can be found on my website      - abbiecarlisle.weebly.com
                                                       Bookstrand         - www.bookstrand.com/abbie-carlisle
                                                           Goodreads      - http://www.goodreads.com/Abbie_Carlisle

Q. Why did you decide to write romance novels?

A. I’ve read paranormal romance books for years after being introduced to them by my twin sister. I especially love Laurann Dohner books and decided one day to put my ideas down on paper. Once I started to write, it was like a buzz that I couldn’t stop until I had finished my first book. Now I’ve just submitted my 6th and my love of writing is still as strong.

Q. How much of your personality and life experiences are in your writing?

A. Writing paranormal genre allows you to put in some personal life experiences but it can also allow you the freedom to be creative. I love being able to create personalities for characters that are fun and interesting but also dark and mysterious.

Q. Do you have a set schedule for writing or do you just go with the flow?

A. I don’t have a schedule as such, I just write whenever I get the chance. In between family and work, I usually get to write at the end of the day when it’s peaceful.

Q. What do you do to relax and recharge your batteries?

A. I love to relax by reading my Kindle where I have lots of my favourite author’s books. I usually start reading and keep going until I’ve read the whole series.

Q. Do you feel humour is important in women's fiction and why?

A. I feel it’s important for readers to relate to the characters in the book and humour is a good way to create enjoyment. If a character is cheeky or sarcastic, in a nice way, what better way to engage a reader and make them want to know more about the characters.

Q. What are your thoughts on love scenes in romance novels, do you find them difficult to write?
A. I don’t find them too difficult to write. Sometimes I need to edit to ensure I don’t make them too long or repetitive. I always try to make them different so the readers are not reading the same words or sentences over and over. I make them emotionally descriptive to help the readers sense the passion.

Q. What kind of research do you do?

A. I research a lot on settings and characters visually to help my writing to be more descriptive. I find this helps the readers to really visualize as they read.

Q. Do you have a favorite author? Favorite book?

A. My favourite author is Laurann Dohner and my favourite book is Braun. She is an amazing author and is able to create emotionally intense scenes of possession but can also make you laugh. Her characters are interesting and powerful which makes her stories fun to read.
Q. Have you always wanted to be a writer?

A. I have always enjoyed reading but never thought of myself as a writer. Now I have written 6 novels, I can never imagine not wanting to ever stop writing now.

Q. How many books have you written, and how many of those have been published?

A. I’ve written 6 books and they have been published straight away. I’m hoping the following books in the series will also have the privilege of being published.

Q. Have you experienced writer's block---> If so, how did you work through it?

A. I have hit writer’s block in the middle of the books. I left them for a few days and returned to them. I re-read a few chapters and find things that didn’t sound right and this helped me move forward with the stories.

Q. What is the most rewarding thing about being a writer?

A. Completing a book full of fun, love and intense desire is exciting. Being able to give readers enjoyment from reading a great story is immensely rewarding.

Q. Are there any words of encouragement for unpublished writers?

A. Don’t ever give up. Sometimes it’s difficult but believe in the ideas you have. If you love it, others will too. Join readers groups, it’s a great way to interact and get ideas and support.
