With people dying in her city she seems to be the only one willing to dig for the answers when the evidence isn’t making any sense. But when her sister fits the profile of the killer Viv knows she may need to make some hard choices.

Jason has walked the Earth for more years than he cares to remember. Always with the singular goal of ensuring the safety of all the humans around him. Meeting the woman who was meant to be his was never even a consideration for him, not until Vivian crosses paths with him at the scene of a murder.

The Darkness is growing, spreading, and infecting the world. With the fate of his Vestal Virgin on the line, an Argonaut will do whatever’s needed to keep her safe.

Excerpt:

“I know. There’s not a whole lot to go on. A few really old cases that may or may not be related, and then the two newest ones. I don’t have a clue if this is anything more than a wild goose chase,” Jason replied.

“Damn,” James breathed. “Well, I guess all we can really do is check them out and see if it was human killings, or if it was more. Really wish these assholes would leave us calling cards. Be so much easier in the long run.”

“Yeah, just what we need. The Evil Ones leaving calling cards at their murders. Then, we’d have the Feds on each of the cases, looking for a serial killer that apparently hops from one end of the country to the other and back again. Somehow, I don’t see that as something that would work out well for us.”

“No, I guess not,” James muttered. “So, which one do we want to look at first?”

“Given where we are, we’ll look at the scene that was out north of Jefferson Park Golf Club. It’s the closest,” Jason answered. “After that, we’ll head to the one that happened in the Lower Queen Anne district. I doubt there will be much left after all this time, but you never know.” They could get lucky, though he didn’t hold out much hope for that. It hadn’t done him a lot of good over the years.

Twenty minutes later, they were studying the scene a block north and slightly east of the golf club. As he’d surmised, there wasn’t a lot left beyond some scraggly pieces of police tape and stains on the concrete.

But Jason wasn’t really interested in the scene itself. Instead, it was what was around that counted. Moving to where the body had been found, he turned his back. He wanted to know what the victim, a young woman by the name of Katy, had seen in her last moments.

It wasn’t a horrible area, not by a long shot. A little wear and tear, but nothing that jumped out and screamed worst neighborhood on the planet. There was a bit of graffiti, but again, nothing that stated they were in gang territory, or a place most folks wouldn’t enter in the middle of the afternoon, let alone after dark.

For all intents and purposes, it was an average area, in an average American city, with nothing to make it stand out. Except for one thing. “We need to get Helen to pull the video feed from the night of the murder.”

“Wouldn’t the police have done that already?” James asked him.

“Possibly, likely even,” Jason said. “They’re not us, though, and they may not see what we will. Most humans don’t want to acknowledge the strange and unusual. Their minds automatically cover it up, and they play it off as a trick of the light, a shadow, or something else that allows them to sleep at night.”

“Good point.” His partner nodded. “Well, we might as well head to the next scene. Maybe there will be video around there, as well.”

Jason was hoping so on the drive into Lower Queen Anne. They needed a break on the case, if there really was one. Reaching the corner of West Republican Street and Second Avenue, they found a parking spot.

Climbing out of the SUV, Jason looked around. Apparently, luck was on their side this time. “We have cameras,” he announced.

James nodded. “So I see. I’ll call Helen and get her to do her thing. Be nice to know if we’re just dealing with a regular old killer or a Monster. Not that a regular killer is all that great, but it’s a hell of a lot better than the alternative.”

While James made the call back to The Mountain, Jason headed for the alley between buildings where the murder had occurred. Ten feet in, he stopped. The police tape that remained was in slightly better condition than at the last spot, but not a whole lot better. Turning, he gazed up at the buildings on each side.

A lot of windows, but given what was in each building and the time of night the young man, Vern, had been killed, there wouldn’t have been witnesses. Unfortunately, he didn’t think the video would be all that helpful, either, given where the cameras were located.

Walking back out to the street, he headed for the truck and James. The cowboy was off the phone and lounging back against the bumper, checking out women as they went past.

“Tell me you’re not checking out women on the street?”

“All right, I’ll tell you I’m not checking out women on the street,” James answered with a huge grin. “Even though I am checking them out. They are damn fine.” He nodded to another one, receiving a smile in return.

“Anyone ever mention you are—what is that quaint saying? Ah yes…you are a dog,” Jason said.

“Woof.” James grinned at him. “We done here?”

“Yes, there’s nothing to see. We’ll need to hope we get some video. Did you contact Helen?”

“She’ll be pulling it as soon as she can. She said she had to find it first, but will call as soon as she has something for us.”

“Good,” Jason said. “We might as well go to our hotel. I doubt we’ll get anything from her today, and quite honestly, I’m starving. They didn’t even have those little pouches of peanuts on the flight.”

“That’s because everyone’s all paranoid by the rise in allergies. They ditched the peanuts off flights, banned peanut butter from schools, and are coddling everyone. Too many people have turned into pansies. It’s deplorable,” James muttered with a sneer.

Jason wasn’t about to argue with him. Climbing into the truck, he put it in gear and got them moving toward their hotel. Food, a shower, and then sleep. In that order.
Adult Excerpt:

“Damn, you’re so hot,” he groaned out. His mouth slid over her neck, followed by a light bite of his teeth. “And tight. So damn tight. You’re going to fit me like a glove. Perfect in every way.” He withdrew his fingers before adding another and pressing back in, stretching her more.
She writhed under him, her head thrashing from side to side. “I was made for you.” She lifted her leg and felt him slip deeper. “Oh, God.” She bit her lower lip and urged him on, “Please.”
“I find I have no patience right now. I need to be inside of you. Later, we’ll go slower, I swear it to you,” he said in a tight, strained voice. He pulled his hand from her body and gripped her leg, positioning it high over his hip. Then, Jason shifted his weight until she could feel his cock pressing to her opening before pushing in slowly.
“Fine with me,” Vivian whispered, holding him tightly. “Just don’t stop. No matter what, please, don’t stop.” Her body accepted his. She felt the way that he filled her, and she bit her lower lip, arching up and against him as she did so.
“Gods, no, I’m never going to stop,” he said softly. His fingers were squeezing her thigh gently, massaging the muscle. He pressed in deeper, pulled out a little, and then pushed in more. “Just like a fucking hot, wet, amazing glove,” he groaned.
“God, yes” was all that she could say. “Perfect.” She squeezed him tighter, tugged him closer, and sobbed his name aloud when he filled her completely. She felt odd, like nothing she had ever experienced before. It was almost as if there were ties binding them as their bodies joined for the first time. “Again,” she begged when he pulled out and slid into her hard and fast.
Shifting his weight, Jason caught her hands and pressed them up over her head, lacing their fingers together. With a firm hold on her, he began to thrust, slowly at first, but his hips began to move faster with each push. He was staring into her eyes as he took her, never letting her look away from his penetrating gaze, not that she even thought about it.
Vivian was captivated by this man. Every plunge of his body into hers had her moaning. Every move of his hard body against her softer one had her sobbing out in need. This was how making love should feel, and she knew it. She relished every touch, every bracing moment, for what it was. It was coming home. Her soul recognized his, her heart melted and was reformed with bits of him deeply imbedded inside of it. She never allowed her gaze to waver, just bit her lip and squeezed his large hands as they moved in perfect rhythm with each other.
He thrust harder, deeper, rattling the bed they were on as he clutched her fingers, then released them a little as he withdrew. “You are mine,” he whispered. “For all time, mine.” Not letting her gaze go, he leaned his head closer to bite her lip and tug.
She couldn’t agree more. “For all time. I am yours,” Vivian gasped out. She moaned again. Her legs tightened around his hips and squeezed. “And you are mine, Jason. For—” Another groan broke her speech. “For all time,” she panted. She felt something intense waiting in the shadows for them, felt the bonds binding them together, and it only made her want more. “Please,” she begged. She didn’t know what they needed, but saw in his eyes that he did.
“Not yet,” he breathed out, a smile curling his lips. “You will only come when I tell you you can. Until then, I want you to focus on the sensations.” Letting go of one of her hands, he pressed his free one to the bed, levering up a little.
“Oh, hell” was all that Vivian could say as he changed the angle of his penetration and demanded she wait for his command. She didn’t know why, but that turned her on even more. Just the way that he had ordered she wait had her whole being struggling to do just as he pleased. She focused on him, focused on the feel of him entering and leaving her body, and ignored everything else. Only he was important in that moment. Nothing and no one else.
“Touch your clit, stroke it, but do not come,” he commanded. His voice was deeper, harsher, his gaze sharper, it seemed. “Push yourself to the edge and hold there. Gods, you are gorgeous,” he growled out. He squeezed her hand as he rolled his hips, pushing in deeper.
She moved her free hand down their bodies to her clit. She arched back. “Jason, God.” She panted and bucked against him. She wanted to stroke his cock, wanted to put her fingers on each side of the thick shaft and squeeze so he could feel just how good this was for her, but she didn’t. He had told her what to do, and God help her, she was powerless to do any less.
“Good girl.” He gave a feral grin. “Slide your fingers down, rub at your folds, but don’t touch my cock.” He thrust in again and pulled out slowly, in hard, out slow, over and over again. His gaze flicked away then back up to meet her eyes again.
Vivian was panting as she did as instructed, the heel of her hand pushing against her clit while her fingers slid over the folds of her pussy. She could feel him as he filled her full and beyond and needed more. She didn’t stop watching him, her eyes on his, her need growing with each glance that he gave her. Each heated look. Everything was more than she could have ever experienced.
He let her other hand go, pressing it to the bedding as he sped up. He thrust in and out fast, as he growled. There was sweat dripping down his temples, along his throat, and over his chest. “Pinch your clit, hard, and come for me. Come now!”

BOOK TOUR: Cowboy Up 2 by D’Ann Lindun and other authors

Road Trippin'

A couple of weekends ago, I set out with my husband on a one tank trip to Arkansas. We got lost along the way, thanks to Really Lost Lucy, the GPS navigator on my cell phone. You can imagine by her name that this is a pretty frequent ordeal. It didn't matter, because I like to say, “It's all part of the adventure” and “Today you've seen something you never saw before”. It ended up being a wonderful trip and great day for it—before the sky opened and dropped a ton of snow on us. Road trips are inspiring, because they get me thinking of people and places away from the small town life I'm accustomed to.

My novella in the box set Cowboy Up 2 varies a little from Always, Cowboy in the first set. In number one, the story took place in one of two towns, Lake Home or Courtland. I was happy keeping the characters more or less stationary. For Good Ride, Cowboy, I wanted the title to not only reflect Perry Glidewell, champion cowboy, is good at what he does, but the road trip taking him and Sommer Allen across the country is also a memorable journey to romance.

This isn't my first story about how a crazy road trip can bring characters closer. I love giving a story more than one setting to bring about unexpected turns in the plot. There are several movies and books that have an influence on why I like writing books with more one setting. One of my favorites if Leap Year starring Amy Adams and Matthew Goode. The heroine chases after the man she's been dating forever, but ends up in love with the surly Irish guy she meets at his run-down pub. Or what about When In Rome? The heroine takes a handful of coins from the fountain of love in Rome and is pursued by several suitors. Whether they last a single day or span a country or two, I think a road trip leads to some funny moments, a few that will touch your heart and hopefully a good memory worth holding on to.

Good Ride, Cowboy is a story where two characters are forced together as traveling companions. Sommer's choices are riding back to Texas with Perry or calling her parents to admit she's made yet another mistake in her long list of regrettable choices. Perry offers Sommer a ride because his mama raised him right, but along the way he faces some truths about his desires that prove he's not as content with his lot in life as he seems. They're a little messed-up in their personal lives, but I think their journey proves that as a team, they can pull off anything.

If you're stuck under the threat of bad weather, Good Ride, Cowboy can carry you away to a warmer climate and you can enjoy the variety of stories in the whole set. Or maybe you'll find time to get behind the wheel and discover your own adventure. Until the next road trip, everyone! Happy reading!

Good Ride, Cowboy by Allison Merritt
Sometimes all you need is one good ride to clear your head.
Thanks to her ex-boyfriend, Sommer Allen's life is in shambles. She's headed home to Courtland, Texas for her sister's wedding, but when a quick stop a gas station ruins her plans, she's left stranded and at the mercy of a handsome cowboy.
Perry Glidewell is on his way back to Texas after winning another championship in the arena versus a bull. When he finds Sommer having a meltdown in the middle of a parking lot, he knows he can't leave her alone. Since her hometown is near his, it makes sense to hit the road together.
Sommer never imagined falling for a cowboy. His manners and gallant attitude win her over quickly, but with her future uncertain, she's not quite willing to give her whole heart to Perry. He'll do whatever it takes to break the walls around Sommer's heart, because beneath her tough-talking exterior, he sees she's the type of Texas girl he's always dreamed of.

EXCERPT:
Perry opened the door. “What the hell are you doing? Are you trying to steal my truck?”
She glowered. “Of course not. You snore. I thought I'd be able to sleep out here. I was asleep, until I turned a little and set off the alarm. I'm so sorry.” She handed him the keys and knocked something off the dash.
A lacy bra landed on his bare feet. His gaze shot straight to her chest. Sommer's t-shirt was tight around her breasts and her nipples made perky bumps in the material.
Perry clenched his teeth. Of all the damn things to notice. He bent down and picked the bra up by the strap. “Think you lost something.”
She snatched the bra out of his hand. “You try sleeping in one of these.”
“Not really my style, sweetheart.”
“It's not like I have a garment bag to store it in. Anyway, you snore really bad. It's like the cross between a wood chipper and a rabid lion. I can't spend the rest of the night listening to you.”
“You could have woke me up instead of alerting the whole world to where we are.” He shook his head. “You're one strange lady.”
“Am not.” Her lower lip slid out and she folded her arms under her breasts, pushing them up higher.
About Allison Merritt:
A love of reading inspired Allison Merritt to pursue her dream of becoming an author who writes historical, paranormal and fantasy romances, often combining the sub-genres. She lives in a small town  in the Ozark Mountains with her husband and dogs. When she's not writing or reading, she hikes in  national parks and conservation areas.
Allison graduated from College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri with a B.A. in mass communications that's gathering dust after it was determined that she's better at writing fluff than hard news.

Cowboy in Waiting by Leslie P. Garcia
She’d buried a hero. She wasn’t looking for another. But her cowboy in waiting was far from a hero…
Bury enough dreams, and you’re bound to grow up.
Diana Salas Chester is a rancher’s daughter and a hero’s widow. There isn’t a lot she can’t do, from raising her daughter Gwen to facing down the loss of dream after dream. And then a birthday celebration goes wrong, and Diana winds up in Border Patrol Agent Ray Bennett’s bed.
Not many of her acquaintances approve of Ray “Baby” Bennett. But is he just the cowboy she’s been waiting for? Ray Bennett spent his life running away from the demands of his cowboy brothers and the ranching life. So when he wakes up in bed with his Border Patrol partner’s sister, he doesn’t want the complications. But suddenly the choice isn’t his to make.

EXCERPT:
Across from him, Di straightened in her chair. He looked her over appreciatively. The halter dress she wore plunged deeply, the icy blue contrasting with a smooth, even tan that went enticingly lower than he would have expected. Compassion headed toward desire. Hell, toward lust. Maybe if the night went suddenly better…
She tilted her head a little, then shook it. “You…what kind of car do you drive?” she asked abruptly.
“Yellow Corvette.” He waited for the gleam of appreciation.
“Then you’re the idiot in the yellow car!” She closed her fingers around her drink glass so hard he thought it might break, and gulped half the drink before slamming it down again.
“I will never forgive Rachel for this—this nightmare! My best friend? How could she set me up with some stupid, stuck-up, oversexed jerk in a yellow car? Damn you, Rachel!”
He gaped for a moment, then slowly closed his mouth. “Just one thing,” he asked. “Who’s Rachel?”
About Leslie Garcia:
Leslie P. García grew up lost among a crowd of six siblings and a menagerie that included more than twenty horses and ponies, uncounted dogs and cats, possums, raccoons—even a lion and monkeys. Then she moved to Texas, fell in love, was disowned—and embarked on her real adventures, raising 4 children, teaching hundreds, and loving 9 grandkids through forty years of marriage. The fabric of that colorful life has always been writing. In A Cowboy Heart, Leslie celebrates two of her passions—cowboys and the ever present chance at redemption in spite of past mistakes. Leslie loves hearing from readers and can be found all over cyber space, including these places:

The Heartbroken Cowboy by Melissa Keir
Love isn’t found at the bottom of a bottle…
Johnson O’Neill joined The Heartsong Ranch to escape his addiction. One night at a friend’s wedding, stress causes him to fall off the wagon and into the arms of the woman of his dreams.
Debra Donahue lost her husband to alcohol then pulled herself up by her bootstraps becoming a million-dollar selling real estate agent. One night with a sexy cowboy and a bottle of whiskey, Debra falls hard.
Can an alcoholic cowboy and a brokenhearted woman find love despite their fears? Or will the bottom of a bottle claim another happily ever after?

EXCERPT:
“I don’t drink, but could use a strong one, right now. Not this sissy stuff.” He lifted the glass to his lips, downed the contents, and shoved his now-empty champagne flute away before he leaned in toward her. The smell of alcohol on his breath hinted that he’d already had too much to drink. “Know anyone around here with some whiskey?” The dark sapphire of his eyes chilled her. This was a man used to getting what he wanted. “I’d even share.” His voice deepened and became husky with his offer and she shivered.
“I don’t drink with men I don’t know.” Debra stuck out her hand. “I’m Debra, and you are?”
The man grabbed another glass of champagne off a passing waiter’s tray and guzzled the drink in one swallow. “The name’s Johnson O’Neill. Now about that whiskey.” He reached out and drew her up to standing then tugged her in close to him. Wrapping his arm around her back, he moved her body in a slow two-step motion.
Debra gazed into his eyes. “You don’t have to seduce me for the whiskey.” She stepped out of his embrace and put her hands on her hips. She frowned.
“That’s not why I drew you into my arms. You were tapping your foot when I arrived—and I thought you might like a dance. A pretty woman like you shouldn’t be sitting alone.” He stretched his palm out again in a plea.

Cowboy in Trouble by Autumn Piper
A cowboy on the run and a girl on the rebound make for a messy fling.
Colby may be having the worst day ever. He wakes up at gunpoint, “hired” by a stranger to do a new job he doesn’t want. Worried the load he’s hauling is contraband, he walks off the job once he’s out of sight of his new employer. Running may not be his best plan, but he needs time to find a way out of this mess.
Delta’s day starts off rough when her pickup stalls on the side of the road. Lucky for her, a handsome cowboy comes along and works mechanical magic on the poor old truck. They strike a deal: he’ll help her out around the farm in exchange for a place to lay low for a few days. He turns out to be handy in all the right ways. A real keeper…not that she’s interested in keeping a man right now. She can afford a rebound fling, but nothing more.
Besides, once Colby gets rid of the crime boss breathing down his neck, he’ll hit the trail. A rodeo circuit cowboy from Oklahoma wouldn’t want to stick around on a little farm in Colorado. Or would he?

EXCERPT:
The door across the hall opened and by the time she turned around, Colby stood there in nothing but a towel. Hubbahubba, a very small towel, since she kept her nice big ones downstairs and hadn’t remembered to provide him one.
Um. Dripping, mostly naked, and looking as surprised as she felt… Wow. Those shoulders looked even better without a shirt. He had the prettiest eyes. Did guys like their eyes being called pretty? Whatever. Nice green-gray. And oh, how she’d appreciate a wardrobe malfunction right about now, just a little slippage of that towel. Although the healthy bulge beneath might not allow it to slip far.
“Ahem.”
“Er,” she answered ever-so-intelligently. “Sorry.”
“Sorry,” he said at the same time. “Forgot my bag in here.”
Caught leering. Her face must be flame-red. “Thought I had time to make up the bed for you.”
“I’ll just…” He indicated his bag on the floor by the window.
“Oh. Sure.” She stepped aside so he could get to it. Lord, please grant us a wardrobe malfunction...
He picked up his bag without the towel slipping, although she had to say it had soaked up water in some prime spots and clung just right.
As he passed by her, he paused, and she tore her eyes away. Reluctantly. God. Her mother had definitely taught her it was rude to stare. The poor guy probably worried she’d attack him in the night. He was hot enough, it had probably happened before.
“Ditto,” he said.
“Huh?”
With his free hand, he rubbed his thumb over her chin. “Whatever you’re thinking, right back atcha.” Looking up into his eyes was like riding the downhill part of a rollercoaster. Her heart screamed Weeeee!

A Cowboy’s Heaven by Sara Walter Ellwood
From the hell of lost love, can they find heaven together?
Katie Chester is alone in the world. After losing her husband and then her parents, she’s left to run Heaven, a thousand-acre ranch encompassing nearly an entire Montana mountain. She rents out a suite of rooms, but ends up with a boarder who shakes her to her foundation.
When Pennsylvanian ex-Army doctor Collin Kirkpatrick lost his wife a year ago, he lost his world. He needs to escape the pain, and where better than in an isolated town in the West? He answers an ad for resident doctor in Evansville, Montana, but is surprised to find Heaven and the angel residing there.
But can they leave their grief and pain in the past to blaze a new path into the future?

EXCERPT:
He smirked at her as he sat beside her on the hay bale. “You’re laughing at me.”
“Not at all. You’re actually a pleasant surprise, Dr. Kirkpatrick.”
“I hope in a good way.” He winked at her and quirked his lips up into a lopsided smile, then turned his attention fully on the cow and calf, and leaned over his long legs with his elbow planted on his knees.
The calf suddenly lurched herself onto her back feet and Collin grinned from ear to ear. “She’s a beauty.”
Dear God, he more than surprised her, he overwhelmed her, and yes, it was in a good way. A very good way.
Katie let out a breath and violently shivered. He picked up the discarded blanket and pulled it over her legs. “You’re going to catch your death. Were you out in this cold all day?”
She nodded and swallowed. No way could she tell him that the sensation had nothing to do with the cold, and everything to do with him.
With a deep breath to steady her racing heart, she watched as the calf latched onto one of her mother’s teats and started sucking with loud, hungry pulls.
“We can go inside in a few moments.” Sweet mercy, was that low, husky voice hers?
Collin only nodded as they watched the miracle of life before him.

Cowboy Proud by D’Ann Lindun
She left town to chase her dreams... He stayed and ignored his... Can they find their dreams together?
All Madeline Harper ever wanted was to escape the tight fences of Black Mountain, Colorado. Nothing would stop her from pursuing her goals--not a devoted boyfriend or infant son. Leaving everything behind, she landed her dream job as a Western Girl jeans model. Her sister’s wedding is the only thing that can entice her home. What she learns upon her return shakes her to the core…and changes everything.
For the last five years Shan Ellis’ life has consisted of taking care of his son and being a cowhand on his parents’ ranch. He scarified everything to be a single dad. College. A career. Girls. Now, the one woman he can’t forget is back in town. Can he take a chance, and risk his heart, or steer clear and never know what might have been?

EXCERPT:
This is how Shan had always pictured his life.
Doing what he loved with his wife and children.
Like him, Mason lived to be with the horses and cows. Too bad his mother hated the cowboy lifestyle with a passion. Shan couldn’t forget that for a second. Madeline Harper had ripped out his guts once before—he’d be damned if he’d let her do it again. Even if she wore a mile-wide smile and looked as at home on the back of a horse, herding cows as well as any cowgirl she wasn’t happy here. He couldn’t make her love the life, their son or him.
His good mood faded.
Last night, Callie Donovan had all but mounted him on the dance floor. He liked her well enough, but turned down her advances because he couldn’t get his mind off the dark-haired beauty from his past. In the five years since Maddy left town he’d held onto to the hope she’d return.
He was a fool.
Nothing had changed. He wanted a family; she craved fame and fortune.
About D’Ann Lindun:
Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there's just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending. D’Ann’s particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, two ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories!
